Balkrishna Doshi, in full Balkrishna Vithaldas Doshi, also called B.V. Doshi, (born August 26, 1927, Pune, India), Indian architect, the first from that country to be awarded the prestigious Pritzker Prize (2018). In a career spanning about seven decades, Doshi completed more than 100 projects, many of which were public institutions based in India: schools, libraries, art centres, and low-cost housing. His understated buildings adapted the principles he learned from working with Le Corbusier and Louis Kahn to the needs of his homeland. In considering India’s traditions, lifestyles, and environment, Doshi designed structures that offered refuge from the weather and provided spaces in which to gather. (From Brittanica.com)
